Ladies and Gents, the amazing Jacky Ickx watch by Sorna:

This “Easy Rider” bullhead style chronograph wrist watch was manufactured during the 1970s by Sorna and named after Jacky Ickx. This Sorna is made with a manual wind 17 jewel movement (EB 8420). Black anodized metal case with gold plated fittings, a stainless steel back (bearing the beautiful Sorna crest) and a black strap.

Length of case : 42mm. Case condition ; 100%. Black dial with a grey outer chapter ring, grey chronograph registers and a date at 12 o’clock. Dial signed, “Jacky Ickx – Easy Rider” and with a facsimile of his signature.
The chronograph starts, stops and resets by pressing the buttons mounted on the top of the case. Dial condition : 100%. Swiss made, nickel plated, 17 jewel chronograph movement. Signed, “Sorna Watch SA” (calibre EB 8420). Movement condition : 100%. Good working order.

But who was Jacky Ickx I hear you cry…

Jacky Ickx was born in Bruxelles (Belgium) on 1st January 1945 and is the undoubted champion of Belgium Car Racing. He started his career in racing cars in 1964. By 1967, he is European Formula 2 Champion. Then he commenced racing in Formula One. He won 8 Formula One Grand Prix : France in 1968, Germany and Canada in 1969, Austria, Canada and Mexico in 1970, Holland in 1971 and finally Germany in 1972.

Very often called Mister Le Mans, for his six victories at the famous race of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jacky Ickx is one of the racing drivers that left their mark on the Twentieth Century. As well for his gentleman attitude than his eloquent results list in so many racing disciplines. This is unique. I like jump hour (or “direct time”) watches like these from the 70’s, but this one manages to combine the classic direct hour watch with a classy, almost robotic, silver casing.

I’ve never seen a watch remotely like this before. I’m worried that I won’t see one again, and am seriously considering keeping this watch. It’s SO unique. I can’t get over the funky 70’s font which says “SORNA” across the front, or the nice red window, with smaller window to see the time. It’s luscious…!

A classic combo here – Sorna, jump hour. It’s got a blue face, classic jump hour mechanism and a spinning seconds mechanism. You HAVE to love these watches!

A massive hunk of watch this one, weighing in at 40mm across, 40mm up and down and 10mm thick.

This watch is almost NOS but is pre-owned and has a few barely noticeable wee scuffs, otherwise it would be twice as expensive.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking here. This watch is super cool – look at the wee spinning seconds hand!! Look at it’s unique colour tone. Fabby eh?

This is a big, chunky piece of retro watch – it measures a whopping 42mm x 36mm so it’s big, but not too big
that you couldn’t use it as your every day watch.
